This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Penny Ask collects, how we use it, and the choices you have when using our service.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect information such as your email address, account identifier, account status, message balance, and account creation information.
Chats and content
We collect and store the questions and messages you send to Penny Ask and the responses you receive so that your chats can be displayed and continued.
If you attach a photo, the optimized photo may be privately stored with your chat.
If you use Voice, your recording is sent for transcription. Penny Ask does not intentionally permanently store the raw voice recording after transcription. A transcript may become part of your chat if you choose to send it.
Purchase information
We keep records related to message-pack purchases, such as the amount paid, number of messages purchased, transaction status, date, and payment-provider transaction identifiers.
Payment-card details are processed by Stripe. Penny Ask does not store your full payment-card number.
Support communications
If you contact us, we collect the information you provide, such as your email address, subject, message, and any information needed to respond to your request.
Technical and security information
Our systems and service providers may automatically process technical information needed to operate and secure Penny Ask, such as IP address, browser or device information, request information, timestamps, error information, and security logs.
How we use information
We use information to:
- create and manage your account;
- provide Penny Ask responses;
- maintain your chats and message balance;
- process and verify purchases;
- transcribe voice recordings;
- process photos you choose to submit;
- retrieve current web information when needed;
- provide customer support;
- prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access;
- diagnose errors and maintain the reliability and security of the service;
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
AI processing
Penny Ask uses OpenAI's API to generate AI responses and transcribe voice recordings.
Depending on your request, information sent for processing may include your current message, a limited amount of recent chat context, and a photo or voice recording you intentionally provide.
OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train its models by default unless the API customer expressly opts in.
OpenAI may process or retain limited information as permitted by its own terms, privacy policies, security practices, and legal obligations.
Web searches
When a question requires current information, Penny Ask may use Serper to search the web.
A search query related to your question may be sent to the search provider, and search results may then be used to help Penny Ask prepare its response.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe.
Stripe receives information necessary to process your payment and prevent fraud. Stripe's handling of payment information is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy and terms.
Other service providers
We also use service providers for functions such as hosting, authentication, database storage, security, and email delivery.
These providers may process information only as necessary to provide their services to Penny Ask, subject to their own contractual and legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information
Penny Ask does not sell your personal information.
At launch, we do not use personal information collected through Penny Ask for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If our practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any choices required by applicable law.
Cookies and local storage
Penny Ask may use cookies, browser storage, or similar technologies that are necessary for features such as:
- keeping you signed in;
- remembering interface preferences such as light or dark mode;
- maintaining security;
- operating the service correctly.
Third-party services such as Stripe may use their own cookies or similar technologies when you interact with their pages.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting.
Because there is currently no universally accepted technical standard for responding to Do Not Track signals, Penny Ask does not currently respond differently when a browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
This does not change our statement above that Penny Ask does not currently sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep information
We keep account information, chats, and stored photos while they are needed to provide your account and service.
You may delete individual chats or delete your entire account.
When information is deleted, we take steps to remove it from active systems, although limited copies may remain temporarily in backups, security records, or systems operated by service providers.
Certain information may be retained longer when reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, accounting, payment records, or legal obligations.
Voice recordings are intended to be temporary and are discarded after transcription rather than being retained as playable audio in your account.
Your choices
You can:
- delete individual chats;
- delete your Penny Ask account from the My Account page;
- contact us regarding your personal information;
- stop using Penny Ask at any time.
Depending on where you live, applicable privacy laws may provide additional rights relating to access, correction, deletion, or use of your personal information.
To make a privacy request, email support@pennyask.com.
We may need to verify that the request relates to your account before completing it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information.
These include access controls, secure connections, private storage for user content where applicable, server-side handling of private API credentials, and authentication controls.
However, no online service or method of storage can guarantee absolute security.
Children
Penny Ask is intended for adults age 18 and older.
We do not knowingly offer accounts to children under 18.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to Penny Ask, contact us at support@pennyask.com.
Third-party links
Penny Ask may provide links to websites or sources operated by third parties.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third-party websites.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Penny Ask changes or as legal requirements change.
When we update it, we will change the "Last updated" date shown at the top of this page. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate.
